LEVI'S VINTAGE CLOTHING (LVC) LIMITED EDITION 1900s BUNKHOUSE SHIRT
DESCRIPTION
A legendary archival piece from the early days of the LVC line.
In the early 2000s, the official Levi Strauss & Co. archivist team discovered a rare cache of clothes dating to circa 1906–1911 inside an abandoned logging camp bunkhouse located deep within the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Among the artifacts was a cotton chambray work shirt.
When designers analysed the recovered shirt, they realised it told a profound story of rural working-class struggle. The logger who owned the original shirt had worn it through years of intense manual labor. As the original factory fasteners tore off during hard work over the years, the logger could not simply buy a new shirt or identical buttons. Instead, they repaired the front placket by hand using whatever loose, random buttons they could scavenge out of local camp sewing tins.
To respect this history, LVC's head designers decided to replicate this irregular repair and they purposefully randomised the button layout across the manufacturing line, featuring a mix of authentic mother-of-pearl and custom-carved wooden buttons.
