Brigham Young University (BYU, sometimes referred to colloquially as The Y) is a private research university in Provo, Utah, United States.
It was founded in 1875 by Brigham Young. The origin of BYU can be traced back to 1862, when Warren Dusenberry started a Provo school in Cluff Hall, a prominent adobe building in the northeast corner of 200 East and 200 North.
