50s Salve Regina College sweatshirt with single-V collar detail.
Colour is of white with a light yellowish patina.
The print is still in a vivid navy colour and the flock is still in very good condition.
Seamless body construction.
Made in USA.
On March 6, 1934, the state of Rhode Island granted a charter to the Sisters of Mercy of Providence for a corporation to be named Salve Regina College (translated in Latin to mean "Hail Queen" or "Hello Queen"). The charter specified that the college would exist "to promote virtue, and piety and learning". In 1947 the corporation received the gift of Ochre Court, a 50-room Newport mansion, and admitted its first class of 58 students in the autumn of that year.
Due to the small number of students, is very probable that these sweatshirts were made in a very small number, making this piece really unique and highly collectable.
FABRIC There's no labels but because of the period, this should be 100% cotton.
YEAR 50s.
CONDITION Fabric is in great condition and can be worn for many more years. An ink stain on the right and many small stains (probably due to a dump storage) on the left side add lots of character to this really cool piece.
